New beginnings... or a false start?
Why I think new years resolutions are a waste a and what I do instead.
A new year always has a way of bringing about a desire for change, or trying something new. Honestly, for the longest time I thought new years resolutions were a load of crap– like, what do you mean the change of the year is when everyone decides to become better and improve themselves? What about the rest of the year? There are 365 days you can pick from to change things for the better…
Now don’t get me wrong, I am still of this same opinion; anyone can choose to do better at any time. My time to change things just happened to be inspired by how I started my year.
This year I attended the SEEK conference by FOCUS catholic, which gathered over 16 thousand young adults and professionals from all over America. I had the opportunity to meet so many young woman and men on fire for the Lord. Majority being college students, my heart was warmed. The love for Jesus and His church was palpable. The young church is far from dead or dying. The Catholic church is on the rise.
I have always received the fruits of digital evangelization from other creators but never thought doing it myself. All of 2025, I felt the nudges of the holy spirit on my heart to move towards this. Sometimes I’d listen, but then I would never follow through. Or I made excuse after excuse as to why it wouldn’t work for my life. But then at SEEK, it was almost as if all my excuses of why I shouldn’t– became the exact reasons why I should.
For those who don’t know me, HI I’M ROZANNE– almost everyone calls me Rozi. I live in Toronto, Canada. I’m a Registered Nurse by profession, and my hobbies include playing the piano, singing, photography, and staying active. I am a big believer in loving what you do and doing things with intentionality.
“A jack of all trades is a master of none,
– but oftentimes better than a master of one”
I always considered myself only true of the first half is this popular saying. What started off as a “diss-track” from Robert Greene directed at Shakespeares “overreach” into multiple genres and art forms; became an ideal and show of his versatility. Shakespeare proved Greene wrong, not through speaking back and adopting the quote, but through excellence in all he did. Overtime, history rewrote Greenes words to the longer modern version we have today, which affirms this kind of versatility.
I thought about this a lot at the conference and how my gifts that reach wide from one thing to another, are not things I have to choose between in my evangelization– I can do them all. Now am I saying I am like Shakespeare? No 😂, I wouldn’t go so far as to comparing myself to the infamous playwright. But it opens up the possibility to do more in my current stage of life. Since the conference, my heart is on fire for God. To bring more souls to know Him. To show how a relationship with Jesus can change you entire life. I have this burning desire to use my gifts of music, capturing moments, and caring for others in bigger ways, so that everyone can encounter Christ.
I am learning that I have to rebuke this lie that I’m too busy. The truth is that God will show me how to dedicate my time. So I guess my change this new year is following through on the promptings of the Holy Spirit. and you can do this too. If you’ve been feeling this pressure to have a “fresh start” this new year, chuck that out the window. Close you eyes, quiet your mind, and let the Lord show you the direction to take. If you give yourself a million things to change and improve on, you are statistically bound to fail. One by one, let the Lord show you when to lean into the newness. January 1st is just another day. You have 364 more days to enter into newness with the Lord.
Please pray for me as I enter into this next season. Be assured of my prayers for you 🤎
